Creating your website into a fun and interactive site by adding video. It has never been easier to embed video. Embedding video is a form of a ‘mash-up’ which is using parts of other websites insde yourown to create a new user experience.

So lets get started:

First you need a video! You can record you own or select one from one of the many video sharing and hosting websites online. If you have recorded your own you will need to upload it to a video hosting website. This saves one two things: bandwidth and having to mess around with playback software. A key thing about mash-ups is that it saves you from recreating some one has already created. So don’t be shy about using existing tools.

Once you have recorded and saved you video onto your computer you are now ready to embed it on your website in these easy steps.

  1. Go to vimeo.com (it is a more professional version of youtube.com) and follow the steps to upload your video. We suggest you use a third party to host your videos, like vimeo or google video). You may need to sign up for an account for the first upload.
  2. Once you have created your account, upload your video from where it is saved on your computer. Allow it to load in full. This can take a while, the video hosting website will be converting it to a lightweight webfriendly version. This may take a while so be patient. If there are a lot of people at one time trying to upload videos you will be put in a queue and receive an email when it has been completed.Website Media
  3. Once the upload it complete, you can add a title and keyword tags. This will help you video get displayed when people view other similar videos.
  4. Once you have completed these steps and saved your video, preview it and make sure you are happy with it.
  5. It’s now time to copy the EMBED code. This will be in various places around the video player depending on which video hosting website you used. Highlight this code and copy it.Website Media

It will look something like this:

<object type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” width=”400″ height=”300″ data=”http://www.vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=931435&server=www.vimeo.com&fullscreen=1&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=”> <param name=”quality” value=”best” /> <param name=”allowfullscreen” value=”true” /> <param name=”scale” value=”showAll” /> <param name=”movie” value=”http://www.vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=931435&server=www.vimeo.com&fullscreen=1&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=” /></object><br /><a href=”http://www.vimeo.com/931435/l:embed_931435″>Another Day at Fenway - Panning Time Lapse - HDTV</a> from <a href=”http://www.vimeo.com/letus/l:embed_931435″>Tom Guilmette</a> on <a href=”http://vimeo.com/l:embed_931435″>Vimeo</a>.
